Where to live in Tasmania: How about New Town?

New Town is a suburb just north of Hobart about 3km from the city centre.

The shops and facilities in New Town are excellent, although spread out in a few locations throughout the suburb. You will find most of what you need day to day and then the city is not far for other needs. In addition, the next suburbs north – Moonah and Glenorchy – have extensive shopping facilities.

Many of the properties in New Town were built around the 1930s to 1940s. You tend to find a lot of sold brick homes of that era, on good size blocks of land. In addition, there are newer areas and housing from every era since then, as well as some new properties dotted around.

New Town is part of the Hobart City Council area. Visit the Hobart City Council website
