Some good news for Tasmania on the unemployment front, or phrased better, employment has picked up in Tasmania.
Tasmania is no longer the worst state in Australia for unemployment and your chances of securing employment when moving to Tasmania have improved markedly.
Here’s the news summary from The Mercury.
TASMANIA’s economic recovery is scaling new heights with the unemployment rate dropping and a record number of people in work, monthly figures show.
The unemployment rate dropped by 0.2 per cent in September to match the national level at 6.2 per cent, Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures out today show.
They also show that more Tasmanians were in work than ever before (242,000), as a result of strong tourism and building industries and a recovery in the forest industry.
A record 157,000 people were in full-time jobs in Tasmania, the ABS said.
The number of unemployed people dropped by 400 to 16,000 in September, the ABS said.
Tasmania’s unemployment rate was below embattled South Australia (8 per cent), Queensland (6.3 per cent) and level with Western Australia and Victoria, the ABS said.
