We previously told you about some new markets in Hobart but unfortunately the night market has taken longer than expected to get up and running.

The latest news is below from The Mercury Newspaper:

Hobart’s first Twilight Market set to be held on Friday, October 3

Hobart Lord Mayor Damon Thomas will open the city’s first twilight market on October 3.

HOBART’S first regular night market will begin on October 3 after receiving final approval from the Hobart City Council this week.

The Hobart Twilight Market will be held at Sandy Bay’s Long Beach Reserve from 3pm-7pm until daylight saving resumes and 4pm- 8pm during daylight saving.

The inaugural market will be opened by Lord Mayor Damon Thomas and will feature a music and dance display.

The market will run every second Friday and feature gourmet food and wine, craft beers, cider, arts and crafts, with music and a dog zone for walkers to leave pets.

Market managers Justin Davies and Matthew Wise said they had received more than 100 expressions of interest from prospective stallholders.

Two free spaces will be available at each market for not-for-profit organisations plus temporary stallholders can fit into one of the two pop-up shop spaces.

Cyclists will be well catered for with an undercover bicycle valet service.

Davies and Wise had originally hoped to get started before Christmas last year but were set back by the need for further detail in the development application and lease arrangements.

The market will operate for a trial period until a review is carried out by the council in January 2015.
